The Press Attaches Department operates from 1993. Following the passing of Law 3166 Newspaper of the Government Issue 178/2-7-2003 for the "Organizing and operation of the Press and Communication Offices of the Ministry of Press and Mass Media and regulations for the wider Mass Media field", the Department was renamed into “Communication Attaches Department” (article 7, paragraph 1) and the graduates are appointed following the decision of the Minister for Press and Mass Media into Second Grade Communication Specialists (article 7, paragraph 2).

Following the recent Law 3444 Newspaper of the Government Issue 46/l. Α/2-3-2006 the Department is renamed into “Communication Executives Department”. The graduates of the Department staff the Directorates of the General Secretariat of Information, as well as Press Offices abroad.

The main aim of this program of studies is to provide the future Communication Executives with the theoretic and practical education, so that it increases their knowledge and their dexterities.

The direct objective is to steer the specialists of the General Secretariat of Information to the execution of their professional tasks and the indirect goal is the benefit stemming from the direct inclusion of the students for the General Secretariat of Information and the General Secretariat of Communication, but also the wider Public Administration.

The attaining of the aim and the objectives of the program is done through the appropriate combination of theoretical, but also practical knowledge, through case studies, mainly on issues in the field of governmental administration and policy.

The improvement of their knowledge and social skills makes them capable of exercising their profession in the future, i.e. to function effectively as communication channels between Greece and the rest of the world, to transfer and to handle information concerning all the fields of the Greek foreign policy, but also cultural events.

The program of the specialized phase of studies was designed in such manner, so as to provide the future Communication Specialists with the specialized knowledge, which is necessary for the execution of their work. Based on the above, the program is analyzed on the following axes:

• Political communication, Mass Media and Diplomacy
• The International Political and Economic System, the European Union and issues of Greek Foreign Policy
• The professional field of Communication Executives, i.e. the Organizing and Operation of Press Offices and the role of the Communication Executive
